There are a few good dive-locations in the waters around Bali.

Lovina Beach:At the north site of the island, you'll find the village Lovina Beach. If you're looking for a good (PADI) dive-school, go to Spice-Dive.

One of their favourite dive-locations is Palau Menangan, an underwater resort. The surrounding reefs of this little island Menangan have been protected for a few years now, so diving is great. You'll do a two tank dive, with a nice cooked lunch in between, sitting in the white sand on the island, where now-one lives. Underwater nature is good, lovely corals and al sorts of collored fish, such as Batfish, Snappers, Angelfish and Parrotfish.

Tulamben: More at the north-east-site of the island lies Tulamben.

You'll find lots of dive-schools here, but beware, some of them want to earn some easy money, with bad equipment. Mimpi-Divecenter turned out to be as good as it looked. About 30 m. offshore lies the wreck of the US at Liberty, which sunk in 1963, due to a vulcano eruption.

The depth of the wreck is from 35 till 10 m., so even only snorkeling, you can't miss it! Around the wreck lives a giant Napoleonfish, while lots of smaller fish will swim towards you, to investicate their visitors.

LOMBOK, GILI TRAWANGAN

You'll find lots of perfect dive-locations around Gili Trawangen, one of the three Gili-Islands at the north-east site of Lombok. The island is beloved by back-packers and has many simple places to stay and good restaurants. Lombok and the Gili-Islands are known as Malaria areas, so make sure you take some prevention-actions.

One of the best dive-schools there is The Blue Marlin Dive-Center. They'll take you to locations where you'll see about two or three sharks per dive! When you go there by autumn, you're able to see some Atlantic Manta's!
