sthenos tou theou In Homer's days man fought against man and called it strength. To be immortal was to have slain the dreadful foe and to live forever on the lips of men. To die on fields of honour with bloodstained hands and a cursful mouth was a mother's prayer: 'Come home again, my son, and be a slayer'. In the days of Brahman strength is to have conquered sorrow, the heart's foe. To be immortal is to have realised the Unconditioned One and to be a joy in the eyes of men and gods alike. To die is for a Knower of Brahman to have cast away the old shell of disillusion, the beguiler of men. Achilles was never reborn, but Jesus on the third day... On his mighty shield Aias, bulwark of men, had painted a circle of hate, which made the plains of Troy light up with flames. The glory of his life was to have chased away the relentless foe from the ships. But when his hour came he did not know how to chase away his sorrow. For Aias did not have the strength of Brahman. Listen, great warrior of the soul! The strength of Brahman conquers a thousand Troys. It makes a man fearless. Death will not frighten you anymore. For to die is to go back in the Arms of your Beloved Master. Chase away the death from your ships, elected one! Come, soldier of the spirit, put faith in Brahman and victory is due. With the strength of his mind Ulysses made his wooden horse and captured Troy. His intelligence was unmatched in his days. The brilliance of his mind made the Greeks victorious and rich. But even Ulysses had to suffer for twenty years to come. For Ulysses did not have the strength of Brahman. Only the strength of Brahman makes life victorious. To conquer the senses and light up the Divine Spark is the highest victory ever to be made. It's no great deed to slay men. But to have slain the fear, the sorrow and the lovelessness of your own heart is the greatest epic ever to be written. Strength is to radiate a pure Love. Strength is to sit and just be all and nothing.
