Sound of Thunder

The planned race for the Sound of Thunder German Cup at the traditional international Ducati Clubraces in Assen sceduled on June 8 & 9, 2002 has been CANCELLED. The Dutch federation KNMV and German federation DMSB could not find a modus to allow this race in terms of licenses and insurances.
PLEASE NOTE the International Sound of Thunder race at ASSEN will go ahead as planned. We even will have TWO manches on Sunday afternoon.

Dear Sound of Thunder friend,

I am happy to introduce to you the new co-ordinator for the Sound of Thunder UEM Cup: Leo Mennen. Some of you will know Leo because for many, many years he was the race secretariat of the Dutch Ducati Races in Assen. So Leo has many experiences in dealing with riders, organisers and circuit owners. Also Leo is a KNMV (national Dutch federation) scruteneering official since 10 years.
I am very happy Leo has decided to step in and have all confidence he will be the right man for this job.

While Leo will be the co-ordinator, the committee of organisers will remain the authorized body. Members of the committee are: Wolf Töns (Art Motor), Alain Schwarz (Pro Twin) and Francisco Tijsse Klasen (Dutch Ducati Club).

Dear friends,

Thanks for the trust you have in me, we will do our utmost best to continue the success Francisco and his predecessor Alan Cartcart had. Saying we, of course I will have the help of people around me when necessary.

At this moment there are only 5 races on the program this year. We will do our utmost best to find at least one more.

Our intention is to coordinate and build the Sound of Thunder European Cup to an interesting series of races not only for the riders but also for the spectators and organizers, to do this we will need the help from as many people we can get.

But first lets build a solid foundation, get everyone registered who want to participate in the series. Shortly I will send another email with the details how to register.

PREPARATIONS FOR THE YEAR 2001 IN FULL PROGRESS
  • On November 5th 2000 the Mechelen Committee held their annual meeting. Main issues were:
    • Sound of Thunder UEM Cup will continue in 2001. There will be some small changes in the technical regulations: 
      • maximum throttle body for World Superbike homologated DESMO bikes is 50 mm / 996 R: 54 mm
      • the minimum weight of 165 kg for World Superbike homologated bikes will be measured with fuel tank and with the fuel left inside the tank immediately after the race and/or practise
      • one bike rule
      • if only the crankshaft has been changed this is not enough reason to not consider a bike homologated for World Superbike
      • carbon wheels will be forbidden; carbon brakes will be allowed in prototypes
      This are just the main issues which can be usefull in your preparation for next season. More details will follow soon.
    • Formula Twins UEM Cup has not proven to be viable in the last two seasons and will not be continued as a separate race class.
    • There will be no price money at each round nor championship price money at the end of the year. This is to lower the entry fees. More details on the entry fee system and annual registration will follow soon.
