Tunisian Golf Courses

"Caddie the Golf Course Finder"

by Enno Brands

Tunisia is a very nice country to play golf, especially during spring when it is not very hot yet. There are some 8 golf courses in Tunisia. I hope to be able to show them all in the near future.

Also, please take a look at my home course.

The 4 golf courses I visited in Tunisia

Yasmine Golf Course, in Hammamet

The Yasmine Golf Course or call it "Les Jasmins", is surely the nicest golf course I have played in Tunisia. It has many challenging holes, but you never get the feeling that you can't make it. The greens are leveled and have very nice putting surfaces. You can enjoy playing this course day after day. And once you think you can manage, come back on a windy day: this valley is very open to the wind and your best tee-shots may travel only half the distance you're used to. On such a day, forget about your total score and have fun. It's like playing with yet another dimension...

Golf Citrus Les Oliviers, in Hammamet

Golf Citrus has two 18-hole courses, and a very nice "Executive" course PAR 28.

The "Les Oliviers" Course feels the easiest to play. But to get a good score, you still must be able to pull off many long and straight shots. There are not so many hazards, and you don't have to go over water. But there are many trees: olive trees on the front-9, and some kind of pine-trees on the back-9. The fairways are still quite open and there are some nice long slow-climbing hills.

Golf Citrus La Foret, in Hammamet

The "La Foret" Course has even more trees and is rather secluded. There are many challenging holes, and you'll have to shoot over trees and over water. I found the course to be more difficult than "Les Oliviers", and most people I talked to agreed on this.

The Citrus courses attract quite a lot of players. Some areas of the fairways were a little too brown and worn, but still very playable. The facilities are pretty well organized, and the caddies do a good job. The restaurant serves a nice lunch.

Djerba Golf, on the ile of Djerba

The Djerba Golf Course is down south in Tunisia. If you like the beach and golf, and the hotel is nice, you're fine here. The course looks rather beautiful with all those high palm trees.

It's is not too difficult to play, I made my best scores here, and that always feels good. The condition of the course was not excellent in March 1996. There had been flooding by sea-water and by rains during winter in the lower areas near the sea-shore. But the green-keepers were doing an excellent job, and the course was quickly improving.

Tips

You are advised to always make reservations for tee-off times in advance, even before you go, with your travel-agent.

About Me

This is me in 1995, taking pictures in Tunisia. Turning these pictures into a home-page was my first experience on the Internet. Meanwhile, I'm still Internetting, but use more expensive tools such as databases. Hell, you've got to make a living. But to be honest, I'd rather be sailing in Sausolito... Or play golf, in Tunisia!

About the Photos

I used Fuji 100-speed color negative film in a Minolta XG-A body with lens Tokina 70-210/4.
