Intro
Hello, welcome on my homepage. Besides being a geography and biologyteacher I am also a breeder (hobby) of birds for almost 20 years.
On this homepage I try to promote people to breed their birds. This for the pleasure you get of it and because its important on behalf of the hobby and nature on itsself.
Wouldn't it be nice if wildcatch wasn't necessary anymore?
Of course you will find also some pictures of birds.
These pictures are shot (with camera) by myself at Burgers Bush (a zoo in The Netherlands, near Arnhem), Palmitos Park (a birdparc on the Canarian Islands), Noorder dierenpark Emmen (a zoo in The Netherlands) in Emmen and at my home.
You will also find some links concerning biology, birds and education (mainly dutch).
I also give some hints on the tipspages which may help you to determine the sex of your birds if it isn't possible by colour etc.
For more info about breeding and nutrition take a look at the tipspages concerning these items.
If your looking for info about a (specific) bird, take a look at the pics and infopage.
Do you have any question about keeping or breeding birds feel free to email me, maybe I can help.
History
Like most people which keep birds I started with some simple birds, I started with the wellknown budgies.
First I had one but after a while I got two. They were from different sex, so soon there were more of them. By selling the young ones and buying other species I changed and extended my collection
Among the different species I have kept were zebrafinches(Taeniopygia guttata), canaries (glosters),
Senegal fire finch (Lagonostica senegala), St Helena astrilds (Estrilda astrild),Goldbreast waxbill (Amadava subflava), Quailfinch(Ortygospiza atricollis), (Estrilda troglodytes),
Schlegels green twinspot (Mandingoa nitidula schlegeli),
Greensinger(Serinus mozambicus), (Erythrura prasina), (Passerina ciris), white eyes(Zosterops senegalensis), Gouldian finches (Erythrura gouldia), spicefinch(Lonchura punctulata), (Padda oryzivora), Masked Grassfinch (Poephilla personata),
Forbes Amadine (Erythrura tricolor), Blue-faced Parrot-Finch(Erytrura trichroa),
Bicheno finch (Stizopthera bichenovii),
Aurora Astrilds etc. etc
Of the parrots and parakeets I kept besides budgies are Forpussen /Pacific parolets
Forpus coelestes), Collies(agapornis roseicollis).
From the most species I have had youngs. Through these experiences and by reading a of literature I can give you advice/hints to keep/breed birds.
