Cebu City

Cebu City is the capital of Cebu Island. With somewhere between 1.0-1.4 million inhabitants it's one of the three biggest cities in The Philippines. Cebu City lies almost central in The Visayas. The Visayas is a large cluster of islands roughly sketched between Siquijor, The Romblon Islands and Samar. Cebu City is an ideal place to get your things organized and it's got transport links to other destinations in The Philippines.

This is Colon Street, the oldest street in The Philippines. Unfortunately from personal experience I can tell you: watch your pockets and backpack!

A classic view of one of the intersections on Sanciangko Street, beautiful jeepneys passing by and a Jollibee billboard in the background (Jollibee is the worse Philippine version of Mc. Donalds).

Drinking a cold San Miguel in the narrow streets of Cebu City. The national sport next to cock fighting must be consuming alcohol till you drop..

Unfortunately there's quite a sad story for a large percentage of Filipino's. A lot of them have difficulty finding rice on their plate every day. Fact is that birth control is almost unheard of, this combined with the lack of education about overpopulation you create solid ground for nationwide problems. You'll find the streets quite filled with often (young) beggars and/or unfortunately addicted to shabu (methamphetamine). At least these 3 kids are still laughing..

This is a shot of the foggy Carbon markets in the center of the city. You can find everything here from fruits and veggies to illegal DVD's.

In abundance: dried fish, for most Filipino's a true delicacy and daily food. Mostly caught and dried by local fishermen and exported to the cities. See 'Malapascua 2' for more info.

A view of the Taoist Temple. This is a Chinese temple located on one of the mountaintops of Cebu City.   Taoist Temple
