Sex Pistols | The Heyday

Unavailable for more than 20 years, The Boutique label is pleased to make available once more one of the most fascinating yet undervalued aural documents from the punk era. In August 1977, Fred and Judy Vermorel conducted candid interviews with the then-current line-up of the Sex Pistols - John Lydon, Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Sid Vicious - as well as ex-bassist Glen Matlock, who had departed six months earlier. These conversations were recorded for their book Sex Pistols: The Inside Story, which appeared in 1978. The tapes catch the members of the band at an interesting point in their history, with Never Mind the Bollocks recorded but not yet in the shops, forced to play secret gigs in the UK as S.P.O.T.S., and just five months away from disintegration in January 1978 while on tour in the US.
The Vermorel's tape archive also includes a snatch of Malcolm McLaren's grandmother Rose Corre, and a classic rant against the Pistols by former GLC leader Bernard Brooke-Partridge. These, together with the Matlock interview, have now been added to the talks with Lydon, Vicious, Cook and Jones, which were originally released by Factory Records as a limited edition (5000) cassette, The Heyday (FACT 30), in October 1980. Back then release was dismissed as a cheap cash-in, although the tapes can now be seen as an important document. The lengthy interview with Sid Vicious (aged 20) is particularly illuminating, recorded at his mother's flat with Nancy Spungeon at his side, in which he makes several - in retrospect - chilling remarks about their destiny, played out one short year later at the Chelsea Hotel.
This version of The Heyday runs for 70 minutes. The booklet features detailed historical notes. PLEASE NOTE: this is a spoken word CD and does NOT contain any music
