Section 25 | Deus Ex Machina

Combines three unheard 1984/85 instrumental demo tracks (Tchaiko, 4TMI and Deus Ex Machina) with sound desk recorded live material taped between 1983 and 1985. Three tracks are culled from a performance at Manchester Hacienda in February 1983, five tracks were taped two years later in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on the band's groundbreaking second North American tour, and two further tracks, including the superlative instrumental Slinky, were recorded at one of the last shows by the group, at Preston Guildhall, in October 1985. The booklet includes full sleevenotes and facsimilie memorabilia.
"Long raincoats and perfect, pioneering beats" (Melody Maker, 8/1998); "Groundbreaking early use of a Roland TB303 bass-line machine, employing the squiggling sound that was to be found in the clubs during the summer of acid house." (Record Collector, 11/1998)
