angel and buffy- a relationship doomed

Warning page contains spoilers for european fans, who havent seen season 2 and the first half of season 3 yet!!
Buffy and angel- the opinions among
the fans are varied. One thing is a fact though:
this couple has caused all the
major storie arcs in the second and third season. Starting with their first
kiss in "angel"(see above) I was captured by their love. As a guy I allways
hated the lovey romancy stuff in TV shows- I allways thought it distracted
from the important things in a series. This all changed radically with
the angel episode though. For the first time in my life I really loved
the romance. Even in angel you can feel their love is real
and pure- a feeling that gets even stronger as the show evolves.
The love story between these two is almost like a classic tragedie. Theirs is a doomed relationship not unlike the classic tale of romeo and juliet. She is the slayer and he is a vampire: even in angel you allready know their love can never be.
And than Joss's evil mind got working again and in one of the most emotional episodes in buffy ever (untill the becoming of course) something, which must have been one of buffy's biggest nightmares, hapenned...........Angel lost his soul!
After sleeping with buffy in surprise, he achieved a moment of true happiness, and because of that he lost his soul, and became the evil angelus once more. After reverting to his old selve buffy's greatest love became her most deadly enemy....ever. Buffy still had feelings for angel though, so she was unable to kill him. This all changed when angel killed everyone's favorite computer teacher and layed her on giles's bed for him to discover. This was very hard on giles, as he lost the only woman he ever truly loved. Buffy had now made up her mind..........angels death was unevitable.
evil mind twists, angels soul was restored by a spell cast by willow. Buffy was now faced with the most difficult decision in her young live. Before her stood the same angel
she fell deeply in love with, the guy that saved her life countless times. There was only one problem though......the world would be destroyed if she didn't kill angel. In the most dramatic scene on buffy (although the one in amends is also pretty dramatic), which is known to have driven many true fans to tears, she gave him one final kiss and than she trusted him into hell, to face endless years of torture. An emotionaly crushed buffy left sunnydale, to return in the second episode of the third season.
But than it hapenned, the event
buffy fans everywhere had been waiting for....angel returned, although
he was changed after all those years of torture in hell. The sitution at
the present is that, although they both don't want to, angel and buffy
are just friends and with angel leaving for his own show at the end of
the third season, I don't see this fact changing in the near future. But
do not despair, I don't think that Joss will let this couple stay friends
forever: expect to see some buffy and angel romance in the future.......even
though their love is doomed.....for eternity.
