Hello everyone, welcome to the fourth installment of "buffy in europe" it has been a hectic two weeks since my last column, not only on a personal level (test test and well a few more tests), but also on the uk buffy front. As allways I'll start off with the news, which I have decided to split up into countries, so the country you live in is easier to find.

Holland:

There isn't any groundbreaking news in holland. However it is cool to mention that buffy is increasing in popularity a lot. Last week my local sf shop recieved a new shipment of buffy goods (magazines, shirts, books you know the deal)and it was sold out within 15 minutes (apart from the shirts of which they sold about 7 in those 15 minutes), and I wasn't even in the shop at the time*g*.
But even with buffy rising in popularity so much, the people who have to make the decisions haven't noticed the shows qualities yet. Net5 still consideres buffy a very low profile show...they dont even bother to mention it in their showcases at night (I know 'caus I've checked). Net5's big show stopper felicity (on after buffy in america) isn't getting the great ratings they  hoped for though, so they're searching for a new show to advertise...maybe they'll give buffy a chance?
Another thing is that people really want buffy goods but the amount of stuff getting imported is is almost allways in way too small quantities, so all I can say is : "advance ordering". Reserve all your buffy goods, 'caus chances are they'll be sold out before you even knew they'd gotten there.

The UK:

As allways Carl, the man with his hands on the hottest uk news reports the news from the uk-front:

"The main news from the UK over the past couple of weeks is that the
BBC and Sky have reached an agreement over season 2 of Buffy.
Almost as equally good news was that I had the first news on my site!"
(note from george: you have to love the way carl promotes his site!)

"The BBC will be carrying straight through into season 2 next Thursday (8th), but
still in the usual 6.45pm slot.  They will be showing the first eight episodes before
Sky One pick up from "What's My Line? part 1" on Friday 28 May at 8pm.

Sky will therefore be repeating eight episodes until we finally get to see "Passion"
on 23 July - only a year after "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", but still,
good things come to those who wait.  Sky also hope to run straight into season 3,
which should be commencing in early September, only a year after it debuted in
the States but better late than never!

Buffy is definitely getting a higher profile in the UK these days.  Most of the SF
magazines were covering it this time last year, but the mainstream press has
picked up on it as well now its on terrestrial TV.  The only problem is having to
buy everything with the word "Buffy" on!"

More UK news and stuff is on carl's website Planet Buffy .

Anyways the news from the uk front isn't all for the good, and although carl didn't mention it, this is something that has lots of uk fans worried: The uk is cut off from the official magazine. Word at the british sf/comic shops is that someone will be releasing an official uk magazine. Although this is good news to anyone outside of the uk (two mags..at least that is if we can import it), it means that the shipments of the official mags have stopped to the uk. Ordering online is the only option as far as I know at the moment, but I'll keep you updated.

Ireland:

No news from ireland at the moment, although it is worth a mention that two weeks ago buffy was cut from the schedule for the first time, to be replaced by football. Let's hope they don't go bbc on us!

That's all the news at the moment.

Now on with some other stuff:
These three are not the only countries airing buffy in europe. Other countries I know off are: Germany, danmark and france. If there are more or you want to help in putting news for other countries (including the three above) in this column, please e-mail me . Expect to see a full listing of european countries airing buffy, including stations ,air dates and times and which episodes they're at in a few weeks.

Anyways thats all for me this week.....I hope you enjoyed the fourth installment of "buffy in europe".......I whish my american friends over here at the buffy zone or elsewhere lots of strength to get through the reruns.....

See Ya, George
