"a chip is not smarter than its programmer"
Air-conditioning
and controlling technics:
In 1978 Hans Huiberts got his master-degree of the Technical University
of Delft at the department of Air-conditioning and Chilling Technics.
At that time he was allready specialised in controlling technics.
The last two years of his study he spent with the design and realisation
of a control-strategy for an airhandling-unit at the lowest possible
energy consumption, executed by a micro-processor. This was the
first DDC-project (direct digital control) in the Netherlands!
In his work at the companies Fläkt and Burgplan he has put
his knowledge into practice and constantly developped new strategies.
Even "bad" installation-designs were made acceptable by means of
software-cleverness.
His specialisms are of course not the standard radiatorgroups and
dito AHU's, but the difficult or special projects, like the optimal
integration of Total-Energy-installations and the reduction of its
number of starts. Other examples are tapwater-temperature-boosting,
storage of heat and/or cold in the soil or a buffertank, watertreatment,
change-over-systems, dewpoint-control in public-baths, energy-saving
measures, etc.
Building Management Systems:
Hans Huiberts has experience with several manufactures of BMS and
has written free-programmable DDC-software for a.o. Tour & Andersson,
Landis & Gyr, SAIA, Margaux, JELL and Andover Controls.
Communication-protocolls:
From 1991 lots of software-protocols have been realised in Andover
Controls BMS to be able to communicate with other installations,
like fire-detection-systems, security-systems, beeper-systems, chillers,
power-aggregates, pump-controllers, energy-monitors, etc. Eather
the protocols were standards, likes Modbus and J-bus, or were specialy
developped in so-called Plain-English-programs.
Remote Control:
In 1980 Hans Huiberts introduced the "Remote Control"-system at
Fläkt-Service, by which, for the first time in the Netherlands,
remote installations were supervised through telephone-lines with
a central mini-computer in the head-office in Amersfoort. The substations
in the remote buildings were stand-alone DDC-controllers of well-known
manufacturers (Tour & Andersson, Landis & Gyr, etc.). A
coupling was made to the maintenance-systeem of Fläkt-Service.
Alarms were automaticly distributed to service-people.
Some years later (1985) Huiberts became deputy-manager and head
of the technical development at Burgplan b.v., where also remote
control of installations was done, more with the aim of energy-savings.
A lot of new routines he developped for several DDC-systems and
the remote control was constantly improved.
When Burgplan was turned into EvoTech (on 1-1-1999), Huiberts started
his own independant Consultancy and placed his knowledge at the
disposal of several institutions and companies, among which EvoTech (later Cofely).
Also by Adviesbureau Huiberts a lot of work and inspection is done
from the office in Castricum by telephone-lines and internet, so that customers
are quickly served and there is no time-loss in traffic.
Energy-management:
Adviesbureau Huiberts can turn a BMS into a real management-system.
In all projects monitoring and saving of energy is a very important
item. With the help of automatic reports of energy-usage, managers
are able to see where the energy is going to and when. Automaticly
produced degree-days- and running-hours-registrations are indispensable
means of checking the usage.
Recently, smart routines are developped to not only diminish the
usage, but also the costs. In the newest contracts of the energie-suppliers,
demands are put to the minimum and maximum quantities of energy-usage,
coupled with substantial fines. In some projects Adviesbureau Huiberts
has recently acheived yearly savings of ten-thousands of Euro's,
just by controlled usage!
