God save the Queen
De herkomst van dit volkslied is onduidelijk. Velen schrijven tekst en
muziek to aan Henry Carey, welke het lied in 1740 gecomponeerd zou hebben.
Anderen beweren dat de muziek aan het einde van de 17e eeuw is geschreven
door Jean-Baptiste Lully. De tekst heeft vijf coupletten; alleen het eerste
wordt tegenwoordig gezongen (soms ook het derde).
The origin of this hymn is unclear. Many credit text and song to
Henry Cary, composed in 1740. According to other sources the music
was composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully near the end of the 17th century.
The text has 5 verses; nowadays only the first one is sung (the third
one only occasionally).
