The clear light of Svalbard. Svalbard (Spitsbergen) is an island near the North Pole. There is no air pollution. The light is very clear. The sun stays until 23th of August for 24 hours. The sun is low above the horizon, which means long shadows and a sculpted landscape. |
Changing daylight images appear in the commissions and sculptures of Joost van Santen,
adding value to the physical appaerance of the works.
