John vd Ploeg - Trip to Iceland 1996

Last summer I went to Iceland . For 20 days we hiked over the uninhabited part of the island, camping in tents, carrying all our food and other stuff in backpacks. This is just a selection of the many pictures I (and others) made:
      • Crossing a glacier, on one of the very few sunny days

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Take a break, watch our companions to catch up with us.

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • This is me, in a physical condition that I can even sleep on these rocky grounds

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • This is not a coastline, but a crater-lake (a volcano filled with melting water)

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Yet another crater-lake

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Here we're crossing a small river. These are the easy ones because we can even leave our trousers on!

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • A nice little bird.

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Look at this picture and imagine how big the river would be if you come here in the wrong season.

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • This is what was left of our tents after the storm had dealt with them

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • We could see for miles here...

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Many rivers to cross... (take of boots, take of trousers, cross the river, get everything dry again, and continue)

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • more river crossing....

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Cooking and eating....

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Icerocks plunging in the Atlantic Ocean

        !icelnd01.jpg

      • Newspaper article about Iceland, when we were back in Holland again for 2 weeks
