John vd Ploeg - Trip to
Iceland
1996
Last summer I went to
Iceland
. For 20 days we hiked over the uninhabited
part of the island, camping in tents, carrying all our food and other stuff in
backpacks. This is just a selection of the many pictures I (and others) made:
-
Crossing a glacier, on one of the very few sunny days
Take a break, watch our companions to catch up with us.
This is me, in a physical condition that I can even sleep on these rocky grounds
This is not a coastline, but a crater-lake (a volcano filled with melting water)
Yet another crater-lake
Here we're crossing a small river. These are the easy ones because we can even leave our trousers on!
A nice little bird.
Look at this picture and imagine how big the river would be if you come here in the wrong season.
This is what was left of our tents after the storm had dealt with them
We could see for miles here...
Many rivers to cross... (take of boots, take of trousers, cross the river, get everything dry again, and continue)
more river crossing....
Cooking and eating....
