9.30 Sent an officer to overhaul the Brazilian schooner Bella Clara, having received information that she intended shipping slaves. On examining her more minutely a quantity of matting was found and several boat loads of fire wood had been received since the last visit. Several leagers in the hold were nearly empty, the aquadente having been pumped off to make room for water. And on weighing the farina, nearly 1000 lbs were found on board. Under these suspicious circumstances, the said schooner was seized [Crew awarded tonnage bounty for "Bella Clara" by prize court on 31 October 1847]
