Swift project.
Hello. I started a new project. I wanted ladykiller III a litlle
quicker then it was.
Last year George Breckenridge visited my site and he had a weird
idea. He wanted to fit a Suzuki Swift GTI engine into his mini (but he has
none). After that I looked around to find something about this conversion.
It was difficult to find something just a few made it work. Like Con Torrisi with his Clubman Swift
conversion.
I contacted him if he could help me solving some problems. And
he wanted to do that. Great. I already had a donor car (yep Ladykiller III).

First I had to build a engine lifting device.
You can see it already on the first pic. but next 2 are better.

It's working well lifting on the last picture the original engine.
Then I found the Swift engine. A engine from 1991 1298cc 16V
and 101 BHP.
it's looking
a bit batterd, but it's a good engine. After the project it will have a
fresh paint job.
and do you
think it will fit in this subframe ?
Well I think it will fit. First I started to cut one of the
original subframes in half.

After that I started to try to fit the engine into the subframe.
I'm half way now with this subframe. And the original engine was still in
the car. But that's already past now. On October 5th. The engine hang for
the first time in front of the car and the half subframe. (I don't have
any photo's of that at this moment).
It almost fitted perfectly. Just some minor metal bits had to
cut away.
I've got some photo's of some more swift parts. The are needed
to let to work the engine in a proper way.
A speedo with
220km/p on it. And at the back is a meter who works with the ECU to control
the engine.
And the wiring
loom of a Swift. I've got the original workshop manuals to work this out.
Thanks to Suzuki Holland Import.
Before everything could be fitted, the original engine should
be out of the car. It didn't cost much time to remove it. and even dismantling
the engine cost me 2 hours.
here
is the original engine in place.
Finally
I found somebody to take a photo of me working on the car.
This is how far I'm now. In a few weeks time I hope to make a proper
subframe to fit the Swift engine.
The next photo's I made in november. This update is made on 3 december.
I found out
that in this workshopmanual nothings stands about this swift conversion.
This 16V engine
has to fit under this bonnet. Now find the space for it.
Here you can
see what I've done to the subframe. It's one big hole. I had to fit a right
hand driven steering rack. Because the dif. is to far to the bulkhead.
Our main problem.
Engine mounting, oil filter, exhaust and a part of the subframe. Why? The
generator has to fit here. It's the only place to be for it.
This is the
left side (from the front). Here you can see what's left from the subframe.
yes not much !!!
A better few
on the right side. Now you can really see how big the hole is to fit the
dif. It needs some extra metal to make it stiff again.
See You soon.
Oh if you are looking for some more conversions try this one:
