![]() Norma J. is a young Italian artist and winner of the Italian Studio Program 2000-2001. Awarded by illycaffè, this prize allows emerging artists to represent Italian art at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York, and to live for one year in this American metropolis. He uses the real-life pseudonym of Marilyn Monroe. However, the name Norma Jean was not allowed because of the trademark rights, so he uses Norma J. instead. For this illy collection set he created a series of images that depict a shower of washing machines suspended against an aqua blue background. Falling from the sky, they are fragments of an explosion, a burst of consumer icons.
Both the cups and saucers, that came in a regular gift box, are signed and numbered 2002.
However, they were already released in 2001 (October 15th), just like the special
International Flight edition cup (May 5th).
