![]() Haim Steinbach (born 1944, in Rechovot, Israel) is one of the most important artists belonging to the Conceptual Wave. Exploring the psychological, cultural and ritualistic meanings of objects and their context, Steinbach has radically redefined the status of the object in art. For this 2003 illy collection Haim Steinbach chose to explore the concept of infinity. The letters n o n and the figure 8, which also stands for infinity both appear in black and white on the illy collection. The symbols start very small on the first cup, and then seems to move through space and time until by the fourth cup they start to disappear off the edge of the cup and saucer into infinity. On March 7th, Andrea Illy opened the 10 year illy collection exposition at the "Bijenkorf" warehouse in Rotterdam. On that occasion he presented the Haim Steinbach set that was available at the store. A day later the set could be bought through the internet site for $129 too. However, the "Bijenkorf" warehouse wasn't the only place with the scoop of these cups. At the same time they were presented at the The Armory Show in New York. And, for the real collectors... there was a fith Steinbach cup too! |
