DESIGN
The Leclerc is the first real main battle
tank to be put in French service. It replaces
the AMX-30 in France. It has state of the
art electronics, a 120mm 52 calibre gun,
an autoloader and modular armor. The Leclerc
can also be fitted with a 140mm cannon with
automatic loader. |
| The production of mark 1 has been switched
to the mark 2. The Mk 2 has a climate control
system and some minor production changes. |
PERFORMANCE
The Leclerc is the most modern main battle
tank. It has the best communication and electronics
there are. It is designed to engage multiple
targets. Its autoloader is one of the quickest
in use, while its 52 calibre barrel gives
it a long range and more power. Its armor
can be easily be upgraded and replaced, while
it is modular. It is less capable than the
Leopard 2A6 and just as good as the M1A2
‘Abrams’. Its main drawback is the outrageous
cost of 8.5 million per tank.
