Leo's Cyber Shell Art Gallery
Leo Man in 't Veld is a Dutch artist, specialized in
zoological objects. His portfolio includes scientific drawings of both
habitus and anatomical parts of invertebrata (e.g. molluscs and crabs),
cartoons, artistic impressions of shells and artistic composition of
zoological expositions.
In the past he has contributed to a number of major expositions such as the dinosaur-exposition of the Rotterdam Zoo and the World Exposition of Sevilla, Spain.
Currently Leo is graphic editor and designer of the covers of Vita Marina, conservator of tropical gastropods in the Natuurmuseum Rotterdam, consultant for artistic composition at the Zeemuseum Scheveningen and free lance artist and scientific illustrator.
On a regular basis Leo gives demonstrations of airbrush-techniques at some of the major shell shows in Europe (in 1996: the Shell Show in Aarschot, Belgium and the NNM-symposium in Rotterdam).
Leo's main interest is the gastropod family Strombidae. He is the author of a number of popular as well as scientific articles on Strombidae and has described several new (sub-)species.
At the moment he is working on a monograph of the family Strombidae in which hundreds of his illustrations are published, both of the shell and (parts of) the animals.
You can contact Leo for illustrations for your (scientific) article or
book, for cartoons, for an airbrush painting of your favourite shell or for
the artistic composition and the paintings of your exposition.
It is possible to send Leo a sketch or a photograph of the object you wish to be illustrated by E-mail or snail-mail. Based on your sketch he can give you a price-quote and indication of the time he needs.
