Storks wins 2nd Division-title
THE HAGUE (Neth.) - On Saturday, Storks shutout The Hawks, 6-0, to win the championship title in Pool B of the Second Division.
With this result, Storks clinch a spot in the Promotion Pool, which will open on September 13 and runs through October 11. The team with the best record in this pool will promote to the First Division.

After last season, Storks added four players to its roster, who played for Tornado's in the Dutch league: Alex Spiekerman, MichaŽl van den Ende, Boudewijn van Elswijk and Rik van de Wansem. They also added some young players to get a mix of talent and experience.

In last Saturday's game, Storks shutout The Hawks from Dordrecht, 6-0, in which starting pitcher Jeoffrey de Groot gave up only five hits in seven innings. Reliever Jurrian Koks added two hitless innings. The team scored four runs in the third inning on RBI-singles by Boudewijn van Elswijk and Ivo Weis and a 2-run homerun by Tom Goedman. In the fifth, they added two runs on a single by Goedman and an error. Alexander Spiekerman scored twice in the game.
With the win, Storks became unreachable for its closest contender Blue Birds from Delft and won the title. Blue Birds, however, also clinched a spot in the Promotion Pool, in which the two best teams in the three Second Division-pools will meet each other to decide which team will promote to next years First Division.
Storks, coached by Richard Brown and Casper Knoester, scored the most Runs in the league so far (218) and gave up the fewest (81).

In Pool A, RCH 2 (Heemstede) is the champion, while Flying Petrels (Purmerend) and The Herons (Heerhugowaard) are in the race for the second spot.
In Pool C, Gryphons (Den Bosch) already secured a place, but also can win the championship, as is De Hazenkamp (Nijmegen). Third place Giants (Hengelo) also still has a chance to finish in second place.
