SALA BAGANZA (Italy) - Thamen finished the second round in the European Cup-tournament on Friday with a 5-4 win vs. Santa Isabel Zaragoza (Spain). Next, Ballerup Vandals (Denmark) defeated Chomutov Beavers (Czech Republic) with the same score, which resulted in a 3-way for first place between Thamen, Ballerup and Chomutov. As the games between them also resulted in a tie, the runs given up in those games were decisive. Thamen therefore finished in third place, while Ballerup and Chomutov ended in a tie again. But because Ballerup won its game vs. the Czech team, it ended in first place.
As a result, Ballerup had to meet Chomutov again in the evening in the semi-final. This time, Chomutov won 2-1 and became the first team to reach the Final. In the other semi-final, Thamen again had to play against Santa Isabel and won again, 8-2, which eliminated the Spanish team.
Thamen now faces Ballerup on Saturday-morning to decide who will be the second team to go to the Final and who will finish in third place.

EC-2: EHS clinch Play-Offs without playing
Nederlands
Scores, Schedule, Line Scores
BRASSCHAAT (Belgium) - EHS won twice on Wednesday, but played only one-third inning, to remain undefeated and become the first team to clinch a spot in the Play-Offs of the CupWinners Cup-tournament.
In the morning, EHS was to play against Allerød Penguins from Denmark, which also was unbeaten. Some players of the Danish team, however, suffered from some kind of virus (food poisening?) and were unable to play. Despite this, the game had to start as scheduled at 9:30 AM to let it become official. EHS therefore took the field, the umpire took his place behind home plate and pitcher Glen Moreland threw three pitches to a fictive batter, who 'struck out'. After this 1/3 inning, the game was stopped, because Penguins 'was unable to continue the game', resulting in a 7-0 forfeit.
In the afternoon, EHS was scheduled to play vs. Århus, but this Danish team had withdrawn before the tournament started. Therefore, EHS had another 7-0 forfeit-victory.
On Wednesday, EHS 'played' without coach Norman Ames, who returned home on Tuesday to be with his wife. On Wednesday-morning, they became the parents of a daughter. Ames will return to Belgium on Thursday for tonight's game against Brasschaat.

EHS now will meet Allerød Penguins on Friday-evening in the semi-final. On Wednesday, the Round Robin-game between the two teams ended in a 7-0 forfeit for EHS, because the Danish team was unable to play due to sickness of some of its players. The winner of Friday's semi-final will advance to the Final on Saturday.
