Hello there

I've just turned up a letter from my Grandfather's second wife, Margaret, to my father dated 19th August 1967.

Dear David,

The enclosed sheet embodies a few memories of Tom's which may help you in compiling the Trevan family Tree. He has others too, so perhaps some time you could arrange to get together so that you may gather them. (Perhaps they never did)

Tom bears out my feeling that the man who embezzeled the ward room silver was not a Trevan but a Crosscombe - according to Tom he was Aunt Cassandra's husband, Sam Crosscombe; the name certainly rings a bell with me.

Like me, Tom has no memory that Uncle Jimmy had any children by his second wife Mary, and this is borne out by photographs taken by Olive and Elsie Lethbridge who visited Jim and Mary in Ontario some time between 1945 and 1953. I enclose some snaps taken then. (I have got three shots (i) Olive, Jimmy, Mary at Niagara Falls (ii) Jimmy, Olive, Mary and the Oldsmobile (iii) Elsie, James, Mary, Niagara Park). They would surely have mentioned children had there been any. Where did you get the idea of 8 children from? Could it have been transferred from Father to Jimmy somehow?

The Lethbridge's address was : 4 Clennon Gardens, Paignton, S. Devon There were Olive, Elsie, Ethel and Kitty, Mary - maybe more- (Olive and Mary are dead) - Mary was the one Father was sweet on.

Jim and Christina Crosscombe's address was : 162 Lakeshore Boulevarde, Ward's Island, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Elaine and Charles Cahn's address was : 6625 Lasalle Boulevarde, Montreal 19, M.P.Q., Canada

I never Knew Jim and Mary Trevan's address but Anthony did, I think. (Cathie's seeing him in a couple of days so she may ask).

Father never visited Jim when he went to America at the end of the war. I think this was rather remiss of him, but he said they had nothing in common!

Much love, Margaret.

Elaine and Christina visited us at Eversley Road with the small boy sometime after the war. They were staying with Charles' parents in Wimbledon.

I was home by 6 o'clock and about 10 minutes before Paul. We are now listening to Jacqueline Du Pre playing something that isn't the Elgar cello concerto. She was at school with Mary. (I had the same piano teacher!).

All the best - Chris
