St John's School Examination Results

Most of the Summer 1970 external examination results for St. John's School, RAF Episkopi, have now been received and reflect great credit on the staff and pupils of the school.
In the GCE 'A' Level London Board Examinations 69 subjects were offered by 35 candidates. These were 53 full 'A' Level and 12 'O' Level compensatory passes.
The percentage pass rate for this examination was 77%. Notable among the results were those of the Head Pupil, Diana Balmer, with passes in English Literature (A), French (BB) and German (BA), and Keith Allen with passes in 4 subjects. The one candidate entered for the GCE 'A" Level AEB Board also was successful in passing the one subject offered.
In the GCE 'O' Level London Board Examination 160 candidates offered a total of 482 subjects. Some of these candidates were supplementing previous attainments with one or two extra 'O' levels while following 6th Form courses, and some were taking a mixture of GCE and CSE examinations. The maximum number of subjects attempted by any student was 7. Of these, 342 were passes, representing a 71% pass rate - well above the national average. It was pleasing to see that 60 of these passed were in the top grade 'A' of the examination. Good results among the candidates were obtained by:
Mary Trevan with 7 passes (5 at grade A)
Judith Baker with 7 passes (5 at grade A)
Peter Gankrodger with 7 passes (5 at grade A)
Ron Zwanziger with 7 passes (5 at grade A)
Anthony Beer with 7 passes (4 at grade A) plus one CSE pass
Ian Files with 7 passes (3 at grade A)
Martin Routledge with 6 passes (3 at grade A)
Joseph Sultana with 5 passes (3 at grade A) plus 1 CSE (grade 1) pass
Ian Coster with 6 passes (2 at grade A) plus 2 CSE (both grade 1) passes
The one student who offered 3 subjects in the GCE 'O' level Oxford Board passed in all three subjects.
The candidates who entered for the CSE (Southern Board) exams also achieved excellent results. One hundred and eighty six candidates sat a total of 670 subjects entries of which 643 were passes, representing a pass rate of 96%. Of these passes 80 were at grade 1, which is recognised as an 'O' level equivalent pass. Notable successes amongst the candidates were:
Paul Ellison 8 passes (1 at grade 1)
Norman Runiner 7 passes (4 at grade 1)
Anthony Orrey 6 passes (4 at grade 1)
Barbara Hoare 4 passes (3 at grade 1)
Erica Brook 7 passes (1 at grade 1)
Brenda Wilkie 4 passes (2 at grade 1)
Keith Kilby 7 passes (1 at grade 1)
Andrew Alston 7 passes (1 at grade 1)
Wesley Boorman 7 passes (1 at grade 1)
Brian Rexter 7 passes (1 at grade 1)
Collette Etheridge 7 passes
Doreen Gibson 7 passes
Elaine Tickner 7 passes
David Beck 7 passes
Donald Buckley 7 passes
Peter Prendergast 7 passes
Kevin Rothwell 7 passes
The one student who sat the CSE (East Anglian Board) exam in six subjects achieved 6 passes, with one at grade 1.
There are still a few results to come in from several Boards in GCE and CSE examinations which it is hoped will be of the same high standard as those outlined above. It will be appreciated that with the number of candidates involved in these examinations the results could not be published in full.
