Brief Description

Jane was baptised at Sheviock on 31 May 1772, daughter of Francis Lord, a single woman. When she married John Parsons on 18 Sep 1792 she was described as daughter of Sampson Trevan. The following month their eldest son Sampson Trevan Parsons was baptised at Stoke Damerel. The couple continued to live in the parish of Sheviock and all their other known children were baptised there.

John was not baptised at Sheviock. At first sight, using the on-line IGI, the most promising candidate is the John Parsons who was baptised at St. Neot, son of John and Elizabeth in 1775. This is the same parish that the Lord's lived in prior to moving to Sheviock, and also John and Jane named their first daughter Elizabeth and first son John.

When they married John was described as a Yeoman, but later in 1814 as a husbandman and later again in 1817 as a schoolmaster of Cot. By the time of the 1841 census he was described as an Ag Lab. Wife Jane and son William were in the same household along wit Alfred Lane, aged 6.

When John and Jane died their address was given in the burial register as Wacker Mill. John was buried on 30 Sep 1846 and Jane on 22 Nov 1846.

William Parsons (1799- after 1841)

William was born on 12 Sep 1799 and baptised on 22 Sep 1799 at Sheviock. At the time of the 1841 census he was living with his parents and still living in Sheviock.

The 1861 census gives his profession as "idiot".

Frances Trevan Parsons was born on 12 Sep 1804 and baptised at Sheviock on 18 Nov 1804. She married John Hoskin(gs) of Landrake on 31 Jan 1833. The witnesses were Thomas Leane and John Parson. Daughter Emmeline (Emilia?) is the great-great-grandmother of a current researcher
They had 2 known children:
  1. Emilia Hoskin (1834/5-)
  2. Cyrus John Hoskin (1836/7-)
At the time of the 1841 census they were living at Newport Street in Maker. John was described as a Journeyman Miller and Frances as an Ag Lab.

Nicholas Parsons (1807-)

Nicholas Parsons was born 4 Jan 1807 and bapt 26 Feb 1807 at Sheviock. By the time of the 1841 census he was not living at home. Searching the FreeCEN site for him resulted in a possible entry for him as a Miller in the parish of St Johns. Seaching the 1861 census (Archive CD Books) shows him at Maker

Lewis Parsons (1812-1870) and wife Phillippa nee Pearn

Lewis was born on 9 Jan 1812 and baptised on 2 Feb 1812 at Sheviock. His marriage to Philippa Pearn is registered under the name of Lewis Parson in the St Germans registration district in 1838Q4. At the time of the 1841 census when he was a Miller living at Inswork Mill in Maker with his wife and 2 children and 3 servants.
They had 2 known children:
  1. Mary Jane Parsons (1839-)
  2. John Parsons (1840/1-)
  3. Phillippa Parson (1842-) birth registered St Germans 1842Q2 is probably their daughter too
His death was registered aged 58 in the Plympton Registration District.

Mary Ann Pawley nee Parsons (1817-)

Mary Ann Parsons was baptised at Sheviock on Christmas day 1817, when her father John Parsons was described as a schoolmaster living at Cot and his wife's name was given as Jane. She married John Pawley on 17 Aug 1839.
They had 2 known children:
  1. Lewis Parson Pawley (1840-40) bpt 30 Jul 1840 and bur 15 Dec 1840, both at Sheviock
  2. Emily Pawley (1842-) bpt 11 Jan 1842 who married in 1863Q1
Allegedly, John Pawley had disappeared by 1847 and was presumed dead 7 years later. Mary Ann then married an 80 year-old mariner who had fought with Nelson at Trafalgar and subsequently had more children. (Source: Cathy Millward who forwarded research done by Patricia Ruffle)

At the time of the 1861 census, Emily was a dairy maid living with her uncle Nicholas Parsons in Maker. Searching the FreeBMD site shows that Emily Pawley married in 1863Q1, and on the same page is a marriage entry for Thomas Henwood, which is a name that recurs on my family tree. Until the transcriptions are more complete it is premature to say that they married each other, but it is a possibility.
