Brief Description

Not much is know about John William Trevan, and what is known is mostly from probate records and his marriage certificate. He was born in Maker in Cornwall and after starting to follow in his father's footsteps and became an apprentice carpenter and joined the Royal Navy as a Shipwright.

At the time of his marriage his profession was given as "Seaman HMS Hogue". His address was given as 14 Fort Street, Devonport.

His wife was born in St Germans and the 1881 census shows that her father was living with them in Stoke, Plymouth. He was born in Yealmpton, Devon, When letters of administration for his fathers estate were granted to him in 1891 he was described as "Carpenter's mate". In his own will he described himself as "Pensioner R.N. of Victoria House, Old Road, Laira in the county of Devon in the parish of Eggbuckland". On the probate he was described as "retired Shipwright R.N." From the letters of administration for his wife's estate, there were no (surviving) children from this marriage. Both of them died in Plymouth.
