John William Trevan (1865-1929)

and Mary Jane Limpenny (c1867/8-) (possibly nee Swann)

Immediate Family Group

Father: John William Trevan (1865-1929)
Mother: Mary Jane Limpenny (c1867/8-)
Married: unknown
Children:
  1. an older brother?
  2. sister? (half-sister?) Rita who moved to Rosyth
  3. John William Trevan (1897-1979)
  4. Henrietta Trevan (1899-) - sister Hetty who moved to Newcastle after marrying Mr Belfield in Plymouth 3Q1917
It seems possible that this was her second marriage since one of their grandsons remembers hearing stories of a step-brother and step-sister.

There are 2 Mary Jane Trevan's by marriage, both of a similar age. Presumably, since she outlived her husband, she remarried after his death using her maiden name? (See also Frederick John Trevan and Mary Jane, son of Adolophus and Ann)
Father: Mr Swann? or Limpenny?
Mother: Mary Jane nee Limpenny? or nee Swann?

  1. Arthur Limpenney? / Swann?
  2. Marion Limpenny? / Swann?, a pianist in Plymouth (need to check local contemporary newspaper articles)

Brief Description

John was the second child of Henry Meirs Trevan and Kezia nee Milton. He was born 30 Nov 1865 and baptised at Charles Church on 15 Dec 1865. At the time of the 1881 census he was a printer, but by the time of the 1891 census he had followed the family tradition of working with wood and become a Carpenter and Joiner. Hopefully when I can get the full census information for 1901 census, rather than just the searchable information, some more light will be shed onto this branch of the family. So far, he appears to be listed twice, once with his wife and son John, but there is no trace of any daughter Henrietta aged either 1 or 2. However, there is a Henreitta aged 12!

The descendents from this branch include the New Zealand branch of the Trevan family. Much of the information was provided to me by one of their descendents.

All the information except from John Williams birth information has been passed down the family and needs to be confirmed against primary sources.

Hetty nee Trevan

One evening in 1988 when I was living in Plympton I received a phone call from a distraught woman who was trying to contact some of her Trevan relatives in Plymouth. Her mother, Joy Lavina Bellfield (?), had just died and she was trying to find out more about her mother and grandmother. The family lived in Newcastle, and her grandmother was Henrietta nee Trevan, born c1897. At that time I did not know of any Trevan branch in Newcastle.

In approximately 1993 Lilian Edgecombe answered my letter and her tree shows she has an aunt Hetty who lived in Newcastle. From the civil registration indexes for births, it seems most probably that Hetty was Henrietta Trevan who was born in Plymouth in 1899.
