Brief Description

Frances was born in St Germans on 4 Nov 1736 where she was baptised on 17 Nov 1736. She married Richard Pawley also at St Germans and they had their 3 children baptised, and the eldest 2 where buried aged less than a year. Then after a 9 year gap they had another child baptised, so this raises the possibility that they moved away from the parish for several years, maybe with a 7 year lease on a property in another parish. Although it was more common for leases to be granted on 3 named lives in this part of the country, some leases (e.g. Stoke Damerel) were also granted for 7 years.

After husband Richard died and was buried at Landrake she remarried to George Hancock on 10 Feb 1777 at St Germans. The following year daughter Ann was baptised on 12 Apr 1778 at St Germans.

Their son Richard married Rebeccah Jeffery and they had 3 children baptised at St Germans between 1785 and 1792. However it appears that they spent some time at Morval, the parish where their cousin Samuel Goyne, blacksmith, had moved to, since they had a son William baptised there in 1789.
