Brief Description

Cazandra Elizabeth Trevan was born on 21 May 1861 and baptised at Charles Church, Plymouth on 21 May 1862. At the time the family lived at 11 Wellington Street.

Most of the information I have on the Crosscombes has been passed down through 3 different branches of the family.

  1. Trevan John Cocking, a descendent by marriage through Bessie nee Cocking and also a descendent on my Plymouth branch through Sidney Herbert Trevan (1891-), son of Henry Meirs Trevan and Kate Ellen Louise nee Osborne,
  2. Alice Trevan on the Little Petherick branch, granddaughter of Douglas Trevan (1924-), son of Wallace Trevan and Madeline nee Arnold
  3. Chris Trevan on my Plymouth branch, grandson of John William Trevan (1885-1956), son of John William Stoneman Trevan and Bessie nee Babbage.
To make the picture of how the current generation are related a bit more complete, the information has been compiled by me, Mary Trevan, granddaughter of Richard Henry Trevan (1900-74), son of Bill Trevan and Polly nee Henwood.

Bessie

Bessie Cocking nee Crosscombe was a keen researcher of her Trevan ancestry and a letter from her survives in family papers in the Little Petherick branch.

William Ernest Cocking married firstly Hettie Maria nee Hall and after her death, secondly Bessie nee Crosscombe. From his first marriage he had 3 children

  1. Bernard James Cocking who married Katherine Mary Harvey, known to most people as Kit, and who is Trevan Cocking's grandfather
  2. Winifred Mary Cocking, known as Cherry who married Frank
  3. David Ernest Cocking

Bessie was a schoolmistress and was a spinster until late in life. Apparently Bessie met Trevan Cocking as a baby and was very taken with him. His mum thinks there is a photo of the two of them together somewhere. As you can see they actually have a blood relationship through the Crosscombe/Trevan line and also one by marriage through the Cocking/Crosscombe line!

Jim

All the information I have about Jim Crosscombe was provided to me by Chris Trevan in the letter from his father's second wife to his father.

He emigrated to Canada. Olive and Elsie Lethbridge visited Jimmy and his second wife Mary in Ontario some time between 1945 and 53.
