Brief Description
Sampson was born 2 Jun 1741 and baptised 13 Jun 1741 at St. Germans.
His first child Jane was baptised at Sheviock 3 years before he married Frances Lord at St Germans, but at her marriage she is described explicitly as daughter of Sampson Trevan. In spite of that, he was a churchwarden at St. Germans and later at Sheviock (1783-7) where he was also an Overseer of the Poor in 1790 and his widow Frances was an overseer of the poor in 1797.
Sampson and Frances had their next 3 children baptised at St Germans between 1776 and 1780, and had moved to Sheviock where daughters Elizabeth and Mary Ann were baptised in 1781 and 1783 respectively. The Church Warden's Accounts for Sheviock show that he regularly sold wood to the church. He was a yeoman and had apprentices. He was buried at Landrake where there is a monumental inscription on his headstone. He did not leave a will, but an inventory was drawn up, and one of the people who signed it was his brother-in-law Peter Stephens.
After his death Frances continued to sell wood to the church and records of the payments are recorded in the Churchwarden's Accounts. She died in 1818 and was buried at Sheviock. Her will was not proven until 1820. After leaving money to her other children and granddaughter Mary Henwood Trevan the residue was left to her daughter, Elizabeth Trevan.
Elizabeth was baptised on 15th Oct 1781 at Sheviock, daughter of Sampson and Frances Trevan.
The Churchwarden's Accounts for 1809-10 show that Eliza Trevan received 1s 6d during 1819 for mending surplcies.
Presumably Elizabeth still lived at home with her mother at the time of her death in 1820, and she did not marry until 3 years later, aged 42.
She married Henry Marsh who was a miller at Sheviock.
No children have been found from their marriage.
At the time of the 1841 census Elizabeth is not listed so she had presumably died. Henry is listed as a March, and his wife's nephew Thomas Trevan aged 14 is staying with him.

Here
lie the remains
of Sampson Trevan late
of the parish of Sheviock who died
the 10th day of March 1795 aged 55 years
With pain and sickness sore oppressed
My strength fell to decay
At length death came and brought relief
That took my life away
I cheerful drank the fatal draught
Which easd me of my pain
I did so freely take me off
In hopes with Christ to Reign

Sampson died intestate but an inventory and bond survives for 1727 17s 5d. Frances's signature appears on the bond. Frances left a will but left only a few tens of pounds. She signed her will but her signature is very weak when compared to the earlier one.
