Brief Description

Thomas Henwood Trevan was named after his maternal grandfather, Thomas Henwood (c1747-1803), who had been a yeoman in the parish of St Teath in North East Cornwall and had died a few years before his birth. The entry in the parish register for Sheviock records that he was born on 13 Jan 1807 and that he was baptised on 7 Aug 1807.

Like many of the first generation of Trevan's of south east Cornwall to leave the land, Thomas Henwood Trevan became a carpenter, but unlike the rest he stayed in Cornwall and became a "House Carpenter". He married Jane Lapthorn Collins on 5 Sep 1830 in the parish of Plymouth St Andrews.

I have yet to research if she is a descendent from my Colling family of Antony at the end of the 17th century.

Following their marriage it appears that they moved to Millbrook in the parish of Maker where their eldest child Thomas was buried aged 2 days on 21 Apr 1831, and 4 of their children were baptised between 1832 and 1838. Census data shows that the youngest 2 children were also born there, although their baptisms have yet to be searched for explicitly.

In 1851 when the Liskeard Trust was planning changes to the Turnpike Road from Mount Edgcumbe Farm to Antony Green, Thomas Trevan had leased two properties next to each other to the west side of Millbrook Lake from Lord Clinton, both described as "Dwelling House and Garden". He lived in one of them (162) and let the other (161) to William Hooper.

His younger children moved on from the South East Cornwall area, with sons John William moving to Efford in Plymouth, Thomas moving to Manchester, Henry Henwood and Frederick both moving to St. Pancras Registration District in London, and daughters Elizabeth Jane and Julia Christiana marrying in Stoke Damerel. Some time after her marriage Julia moved to St Marys Church in Devon and later to St Pancras.

The death of Thomas's wife Jane was recorded between Apr and Jun 1865 in the St Germans registration district. He died less than a year later between Jan-Mar 1866. The parish records at Maker have yet to be explicitly checked looking for more precise dates of death or burial.

More research is needed into this branch of the family. Since they no longer live in the same part of the country as my direct line I have not found much information on them during my research to date.

There are a number of London based births, marriages and deaths which similarly need to be researched, since some of these events are likely to be for descendants of Thomas Henwood Trevan.
