Brief Description

William Henry Trevan was baptised at Sheviock on 20 Jan 1818 when his father was described as a Farmer. After that, not much is known about this branch of the family, except for the information provided by the census. At the time of the 1841 census he was living at home with his widowed father John and sister Margaretta. He married Mary Ann Wallis in Stoke Damerel in the first quarter of 1847, and daughter Maria was born in the third quarter of the same year and her birth was registered in the St Germans district. Second daughter Ellen was born near the end of the following year. By the time of the 1851 census they were living at Polbathic where he lived until his death, and his occupation was veterinary. Eldest daughter Maria was staying with her maternal grandparent, Thomas and Mary Ann Wallis, in Fore Street, Bodmin. Son William and daughter Kate were born in 1853 and 1854 respectively, and it is probable that Herbert Wallis Trevan (1856-60) and possible that William Alfred Trevan (1857-7) were later children who died before the next census in 1861, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Ellen had married and left home by the time of the 1861 census, their address was given as Liskeard Road, Polbathic, and William (also known as Wallis) had also left by 1871, as had Kate by 1881, although her daughter Florence was staying with them. By 1891 daughter Maria had married a sailor, and she was still living at home with her parents. Laura L J Moon was also staying with them and listed as their niece who was born in Liskeard, but it is probable that she was their granddaughter, since she is the same age as Ellen's daughter Laura L Moon from the 1891 census who was also born in Liskeard.

Mary Ann died in 1st quarter 1895 age 73. William was still alive and living in Polbathic when the 1901 census was taken, as was his daughter Maria and her husband William Carter. He died at the beginning of the following year.

Maria Louisa Wallis Carter nee Trevan (1847-)

The birth of Maria Louisa Wallis Trevan was registered between Jul and Sep 1847 in the St Germans registration district. She was staying with her maternal grandparents at the time of the 1851 census. She was not at home with her parents for the 1861 census or 1871 census, but was for the 1881 census. She married William Henry Carter in Stoke Damerel in the 3rd quarter of 1890. He was a Captain in the Mechant Service. She was living at home with her parents for the 1891 census but she had no children, at least there were none with her on that night. At the time of the 1901 census she and husband William were both living in Sheviock and he was described as a Retired Master Mariner.

Ellen Isabell Moon nee Trevan (1848-)

The birth of Ellen Isabell Trevan was registered during Oct-Dec 1848 in the St Germans registration district. She was at home with her parents for the nights of the 1851 census and the 1861 census. She married Thomas Newton Moon in 2Q1868 in the St Germans registration district. The 1871 census records him as a Music Seller, and in 1881 his is not at home but his wife is recorded as the wife of a Pianoforte Tuner. He was recorded as a visitor to Alfred Badcock, an unmarried head of a Boot and Shoe Manufacturer employing 4 men and 2 boys at Fore Street, Stratton, Cornwall. Thomas Newton Moon was described as a 37 year old visitor, born in Liskeard, whose occupation was a Piano Factor. Both Thomas and Ellen were alive and living in Liskeard at the time of the 1901 census, and I have yet to search for their children.

Catherine (Kate) Gurney Wallis Henwood nee Trevan (1854-)

The birth of Catherine Gurney Whitford Trevan was registered between Apr and Jun 1854 in the St Germans registration district. She was at home with her parents for the night of the 1861 census when her name was recorded as Kate. She was still at home for the 1871 census when her name was recorded as Catherine G W Trevan. She married Thomas Henwood during 3rd quarter 1874 in Stoke Damerel, and they were living there at the time of the 1881 and 1901 censuses. The name Henwood is one that features repeatedly in the Trevan family history, with marriages in both the 18th and 19th centuries on my direct bloodline ancestors in addition to this marriage on a side-branch of the family. I have yet to search the 1901 census for their children.
