Treveighen and Trevehen Familes

 My research leads me to believe that the name Treveighen died out in the 19th century; certainly by the time of the 1881 census for Cornwall there are no entries and I have not encountered any family members in other countries, with the exception of an early emigrant (16th century) to America. (Details to be added later)

This section of my my web site has recently been extended (Nov/Dec 1999) with the information about the descendents of Ronall Treveighen aka Reynold of St Teath. Some of his descendents moved to Landrake and were living in Landrake until a few years before some of my direct Trevan bloodline ancestors were buried at Landrake.

My earliest Trevan ancestor, John Treveighen, is buried in Landrake as "John Trevan Snr" in 1769 aged 71. That means that he was born c1698. Unfortunately a search in the late 1690's for John in the parish registers for Landrake shows only the burial of a John Trevehen, son of Sampson Trevehen in 1698. However, the parish registers do not contain baptism records for ALL of Sampson's children, so it is possible that another son was born in the same year and named John.

I have prepared an index of the family groups who lived in St Teath and Landrake. All except for William Trevehen / Trevain and Christian are descended from Ronall / Reynold Treveighen. I also have a page of "spare" parish register information which has not been used in constructing any of the family group sheets.

The earliest records I have found include

Plymouth St Andrews, Devon

Hugh Treveighen married Elizabeth in Colyton, Devon on 28 Nov 1583. They lived in Plymouth in the parish of St Andrews where they had at least 9 children, most of whom died when only a few months old.

There was also a Thomas Treveighen in the same parish. His children were

Robert Treveighen (-1617) married Katherine Cawsie (-1617) on 7 Nov 1597. Robert was buried on 14 Sep 1617 and his wife Katheren was buried as widow of Robert on 11 Sep 1617. Their children were

Agn Treveighen married Rob Weltch in 1602

Eliz Treveighen married Thos Smarte in 1603

Thomsaine Treveighan married Thomas Luscombe on 11 Apr 1613

Peter Treveighen also has a child baptised in the same parish

1626 Thos Trevighan, als Randell married Agn Hallet. It is not clear whether this is the second marriage of the Thomas whose children were listed earlier or another person.
