When I first started putting my web site together in the late summer of 1998 I did a search of the name Trevan, and there were a couple of hundred pages to be found. This page reflects the range of topics which could be found. Since then there has been an explosion in the number of pages which are available on the web with search engines returning thousands of pages. This page is not updated regularly - it's just a snapshot of the main topics in 1998, with a few updates made to reflect some of the people mentioned elsewhere on my tree. As these web pages disappear the links will be removed from this page.
Dead People
The main people I have come across, rather than just as a list of names, are
- Sir Peter de Trevagin was a witness to a grant of 1/2 acre of land in the parish of St Constantine in the county of Cornwall in England - deeds 96. He was also referred to in the same deed as Sir Peter De Treveighan.
- Dr. Henry Trevan, Ship's Surgeon on HMS Virago whose journals survive in Canada along with a photograph.
- JW Trevan who wrote "Memoirs of the Parish of Endellion in North Cornwall" with a reference to "sea hogs coming here in vast shoals" in Sep and Oct 1833
- Dr. John William Trevan, involved in the production process of penicilin and referred to from several scientific type of pages
The latter 2 gentlemen are descendents of
John and Francis Treveighen / Trevane / Trevan.
Living People
Most search engines I use seem to throw up references to Tim Trevan
talking mostly on the subject of chemical weapons, Saddam Hussien or Iraq.
He's my brother.
As part of the information explosion, the number of living people who can be found is much larger.
The pseudonym 'John Trevan' is used by John Cocking. He has written articles and produced videos on Railways mostly across parts of Europe. He also wrote a fictional novel about the year
2000 bug. Together with his son Trevan Cocking (my 3rd cousin once removed), he runs a bookshop in Salisbury called Trevan's Old Books.

People with Trevan as a First Name
There seem to be an increasing number of people with Trevan as a first or
middle name.
This phenomenom affects the USA and UK, including one of my nephews.
But mostly I don't know anything about these people.
However, a Railtrack notice of 9th Jul 1998 refered to a Trevan Hingston,
and in the 19th century there was inter-marrying between the Trevan and
Hingston families.
