Brief Description of the Family

Ann was baptised at Blisland as
Ann Trevaynes bastard of Mary Trevaynes 5th Feb 1815. Reputed father is John Bilk(n)ey of Roche

It appears that she lived in the parish for all most of her life. Her first illegitimate child to be baptised there on 30 Dec 1842 was Isaac, but the census records show that she most probably had an earlier child, Mary A, whose baptism I have not yet found. Mary is recorded as grand-daughter of Anne's mother, and I have assumed that she is Anne's daughter, although I have not found any information to corroborate or contradict this assumption. It is possible that she could be a niece to Anne.

After producing 5 known children who were baptised with her maiden name, she married Samuel Bilkey in 1855. He was a widower age 56, labourer and son of Samuel Bilkey, labourer. She was simply described as a spinster age 40, with no father shown. Both were shown as living in Church Town. They were both illiterate as they made their mark.

After their marriage they had a son Thomas Bilkey who was baptised 18 Sep 1857 at Blisland.

Daughter Amelia Trevains died aged 13 in Blisland and was buried on 26 Jul 1859.

They subsequently moved to the neighbouring parish of Temple, where they were living at the time of the 1871 census. Anne's eldest son Isaac Simmons Trevains was also living in Temple at this time, although he had the majority of his children baptised at the nearby parish of Warleggan. It appears that after Anne and Samuel married that at least some of the children took their father's name, since in this census Samuel and Benjamin are recorded under the surname of Bilkey, along with their younger half-brother Thomas.

For the 1881 census, Ann was living at Bedrawl in Blisland with her youngest son Thomas Bilkey. By this time she was a widow.
