Brief Description of the Family
Both John and Elizabeth made their marks at the time of their marriage, indicating that they were illiterate. John was described as 'of this parish' whereas Sarah was described as a 'sojourner', or someone who was temporarily living in the parish. Their witnesses were Mary Wills and Robert Lean.
It appears that following the marriage the family lived their lives in the parish of Blisland on Bodmin Moor since all their children were born and buried there. Their first child, Elizabeth, was baptised 9 months after the marriage. The eldest 3 children died as children and were baptised and buried in the parish. Son John and daughter Mary Ann went on to have families, but nothing is know about youngest son Benjamin except that he was baptised. Sarah's burial has not been found there, so it is probable that following John's death in 1810 she either returned to her own parish or remarried using her maiden name of Stephen.
