Van Halen to bowl into the Superbowl?

Van Halen's next window of opportunity to officially announce the world's worst kept secret, their reunion with Sammy Hagar, may now happen in Superbowl week. Sammy Hagar will be the official party host for the Coors Light Super Bash, the open air free for all celebration leading up to the Superbowl in Houston. The Superbash will run from January 28 through until February 1. Once again word is circulating that this may be the occasion to officially announce his reinstatement with the group.

The Van Halen reunion tour is expected to be one of the biggest live events in the USA in the second half of 2004 but there are a number of factors weighing in on it getting to the starting line. The biggest issue is how deep Sammy Hagar's wounds still are after his dumping from the band in 1996. Sammy Hagar had the last laugh after the sacking. The short-lived reunion with David Lee Roth disintegrated after two songs were recorded for their greatest hits album and the appointment of third singer Gary Cherone was a complete disaster.

For Van Halen to have any impact moving forward, it is widely accepted that the only answer is to bring back Sammy Hagar. A year ago, a reunion with David Lee Roth was attempted but fell apart when lawyers became involved. Can lawyers stuff this one up too? Most certainly if they drive the negotiations.

Van Halen is big business. In the USA alone they have sold more than 50 million albums which give them an annual turn-over of a medium sized corporation. Unfortunately for the music fans, negotiations of this size are purely business driven so we await the word from Van Corp before things move forward.

New Van Halen rumors from www.melodicrock.com online:
The Van Halen rumor machine is really rolling along now. A few very positive developments from the last few days. The first development comes from Sammy Hagar's own website administrator. She has remained tight-lipped since I broke news of Hagar's move back to Van Halen on November 20. But this week she was again asked two questions:

1. "Is Sam working with Van Halen again?"
2. "Is the rumored Best Of Volume 2 a reality?"
Her reply: "Number 1 and 2 you'll hear soon..."

Ok, then this... from Grant Fisher of the now closed VHND. He posted this e-mail he received: "A friend of mine named (removed) has been friends with Sammy Hagar for years. Anyway, he told me tonight that it's official that Sammy is back with Van Halen and that Sammy is playing some show in Walnut Creek, CA and he is going to make the announcement."
