SAMMY HAGAR & DAVID LEE ROTH TOUR 2002: SONG FOR SONG, THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPS OF ROCK 'N ROLL

In a Los Angeles press conference today, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar announced they have joined forces for an unprecedented concert tour kicking off Wednesday, May 29 in Cleveland, Ohio.

This is the first time these legendary rock 'n' rollers will be sharing a stage, each performing their arsenal of hits on this co-headline tour.

Tickets go on sale April 20 for the Cleveland, Detroit (May 31) and Indianapolis (June 2) shows. Future on-sale concert dates will follow.

Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone lines, at all Ticketmaster retail ticket centers, via ticketmaster.com, and the venue Box Offices.

Het ziet er daadwerkelijk naar uit dat er een, altijd voor onmogelijk gehouden, tournee komt van Sammy Hagar's band (inclusief een aantal gastoptredens van Van Halen's eigen bassist Michael Anthony) samen met David Lee Roth's band! Wie had ooit voor mogelijk gehouden dat deze twee Van Halen kemphanen zich samen op het podium zouden begeven… Blijft wel de vraag over wie er nu in het voorprogramma staat van wie. Moet je je voorstellen:

Klinkt mij beiden nogal onwaarschijnlijk in de oren. Bronnen uit het geruchten circuit bevestigden dat de eerste gig gepland staat voor 29 mei in Cleveland, OH.

Tot voor alsnog blijft het onduidelijk waar de broertjes Van Halen momenteel mee bezig zijn. Afgezien van het feit dat Edward druk doende is om alles op internet waar zijn naam en logo mee verbonden is te registreren. In eerste instantie opgestelde regels voor het verboden gebruik van Van Halen logo's op pagina's van fans schijnen nu toch versoepeld te zijn. Een Van Halen fansite zonder een Van Halen logo? Ik kon het me ook niet voorstellen en het lijkt me trouwens ook een zo goed als onmogelijke opgaaf om dat allemaal aan banden te willen leggen.

Een tot op heden uitgestelde reünie met David Lee Roth schijnt zuiver op juridische gronden (geen persoonlijke!) voor alsnog af te ketsen. We wachten af wat de volgende stappen gaan worden voor de betrokkenen in kwestie. Is er wel een alternatief? Een vierde zanger? Lijkt me niet. Van Halen's officiële web site laat ons al maanden in het ongewisse…
