Hospital spokeswoman Jane Brust of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center said Edward Van Halen does not currently have cancer. But when asked if he has been treated for the disease, Brust declined to comment today. Van Halen's web site said that the treatment was to prevent cancer...

It is with great sadness that I report that Edward Van Halen began treatment in Houston for cancer of the tongue. My best wishes go to Edward and his family.

Sources say that he has already had surgery to remove a portion of the ailing organ. Medical journals state that the usual treatment for tongue cancer, which occurs most commonly in those who smoke, is surgery followed by postoperative radiation therapy, and in some cases, chemotherapy. While the prognosis on Edward's health is said to be looking positive, the same can't be said now for the long-rumored reunion with original singer David Lee Roth. Sources close to the group told MTV News that pending CD releases or tour dates featuring the original lineup are, at this point, unlikely.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center confirms that guitarist Edward Van Halen visited the Houston center Thursday (May 25) as an outpatient. According to M.D. Anderson doctors, Edward is planning to begin an outpatient clinical trial to prevent cancer.

Lots of rumblings going on on the internet that next week will be the week, but there has been no indication from official sources that something will be announced any time soon. But hold on to your hats, next week could be interesting. One of David Lee Roth's fan sites posted ex-DLR Band drummer, Ray Luzier, comments and confirmation about the reunion with Van Halen, but this has to be revise on management request...
