The Buckleburg-1 clay mound, built up by the Barran-
coid Indians ca 300-400 AD in the coastal swamps
of Suriname. The mound is ca 2 m high and has a dia-
meter of ca 140 m. Two participants of the excavations
in 1977, Mrs. A. Soedhoe and M. Sheombar of the Su-
riname Museum, are in the foreground.
